BossCover Circular System makes disassembly a design principle. The EPDM membrane, the insulation, and the key connections are constructed in such a way that they remain accessible, removable, and reusable at a later date.
With a lifespan of 70 years, EPDM can also outlast the original function of a building component. This allows a roof to adapt to renovation, retrofitting with insulation, expansion, or dismantling, without unnecessarily wasting usable materials.

Circularity starts with connection
The technical lifespan of a material often exceeds that of the building or the roof structure. If the layers are permanently bonded together, their residual value cannot be utilized at a later date.
BossCover That is why the Circular System is based on a design that facilitates reuse. The various layers remain accessible for inspection, replacement, and recovery, so that usable components can be reused rather than being lost prematurely.
EPDM’s long service life reinforces that principle. Research conducted by SKZ on behalf of VESP shows that four EPDM membranes studied have a calculated service life of at least 70 years under normal operating conditions. That service life becomes even more valuable when the membrane can be reused after its initial phase of use.

Two roof structures, one principle
BossCover Circular System can be installed as a loose-laid, ballasted system or a mechanically fastened system. In both configurations, the membrane, insulation, vapor barrier, and connections remain accessible for future modifications, removal, and potential reuse.
The choice between the two systems depends on the roof structure, substructure, wind loads, and project-specific requirements.
Circular Ballasted System
The membrane is installed loosely and covered with ballast. The system components are mechanically fastened.
Circular Mechanical System
The membrane is mechanically secured along with the corresponding system components.
Detachable down to the smallest detail
A circular roof structure only works if the critical connections also remain removable. That is why, with BossCover ’s Circular System, the roof curb and eaves are installed mechanically and without adhesive.
BossCover Certefix secures the EPDM membrane to the eaves without adhesive and without piercing the membrane. The BossCover roof edge profile mechanically anchors the membrane to the roof edge and ensures a watertight connection between the roof and the facade.
This ensures that these connections remain accessible later on and can be detached without damage during renovation, modification, or dismantling.

Circular Roofs in Practice
Two projects demonstrate how BossCover Circular System is applied in various contexts: from an architectural firm to a large-scale temporary housing site. In both cases, the ability to disassemble the structures was incorporated into the design from the very beginning.
Project AST77: Built to Be Reused
BossCover 's Circular System, combined with reclaimed insulation, was chosen for the new office of the architectural firm AST77. The project demonstrates how longevity, ease of disassembly, and reuse can be integrated starting from the design phase.

For the temporary asylum seekers’ center in Dordrecht, circularity was incorporated into the design from the outset in collaboration with LMDD b.v. The buildings were designed to be dismantled at a later date and rebuilt at a different location. The roof also follows this principle, featuring 6,000 m² of EPDM and more than 1 km of Certefix.

Reusing Waste Streams
Not all EPDM scrap can be reused as a roofing membrane. Therefore, cutting scraps and recycled EPDM are repurposed whenever possible, for example, in BossCover RoofTile XL.
