How do you combine a retail expansion with the preservation of existing sports grounds? In Utrecht, an innovative solution was chosen: two artificial turf fields on the roof of the new parking garage at IKEA.
As much as 10 meters in height, 18,700 m² of BossCover EPDM was installed as a waterproof base for this unique sports facility. The roof structure supports not only the two soccer fields, but also a canteen/clubhouse at roof level. The locker rooms are located one floor below.
The design was by wrk architects, and the installation of the roof was carried out by Rudde Roofing.
A strong example of multipurpose construction: literally and figuratively beyond expectations.
